The member representing Itu/Ibiono Ibom Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Rt. Hon. Dr. Henry Archibong on Sunday, December 29, 2019, held a get-together and empowerment programme for the people of his constituency.

The event, which took place at St Paul’s Primary School, Mbak Obio Itam, Itu Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State, was a show of love and gratitude displayed by the lawmaker towards his constituents who stood by him during the elections and have been supporting his representation.

As a part of his responsibilities to empower his people, Dr. Archibong donated 1 car, 14 tricycle pickups; 3 minibusses; 6 3000KVA generators; 6 deep freezers; 12 sewing machines; 2 grass cutting machines; 7 barbing kits with generators; 1 electric washing machine; 10 hairdryers; 1 special electric sewing machine with shop rent; 1 drilling/filling PPR plumbing machine; 1 automobile complete toolbox; 2 welding machines, educational support to 30 students, market money to 43 women and one hundred thousand naira each, business support two other constituents.

The lawmaker reiterated his commitment to the people of Itu/Ibiono Ibom federal constituency, saying he is not a promise and fail leader.

“I am not a promised and fail leader, when I promise, I fulfill. My first responsibility is to make laws, that I am doing to the best of my ability. But also, I must bring dividends of democracy to my people.

“I have been doing empowerment to my people, I will continue to do more. Earlier today, I have commissioned a house to one of us and that is how to empower the people by identifying their needs. Previously, some people sold what they received as empowerment, but this time, I make sure what is given to the people is what they need,” Dr. Archibong said.

He charged the people to join hands with him to build the constituency, stating that elections have come and gone. He also used the opportunity to inform the people that each ward has a representative working closely with him as personal aide.

“Elections have come and gone, we must join hands to build our constituency. My house is always open to everybody, if you have any useful information or contributions, please come to me.

“In my first term in office, I had only a few persons working for me, but today, I have personal assistants from all the wards in Itu/Ibiono Ibom, if you have any information you want to give to me, meet a representative from your Ward working with me, because I may not sort out my schedule on time to meet with you.”

The lawmaker further stated that the empowerment he is doing today is more lucrative than what the federal government is giving as TraderMoni and urges those who are not benefitting now to wait for their turn.

“What I am giving out today is more than what the Federal Government has given to Nigerians as TraderMoni, so we have to show gratitude. I want to encourage those who are not opportune to be empowered today to have patience and wait for the next empowerment.”

Responding, the Executive Chairman of Itu Local Government Council, Hon (Barr) Etetim Onuk thanked the lawmaker for being selfless, noting that others have not done same. He used the opportunity to advise social media users to be appreciative of their leaders.

“I want to thank Dr. Archibong for this empowerment. It is selfless, they are those who have more in abundance but cannot give to others. I also want to advise those who are on social media to try as much as they can to appreciate those who have tried their best to help the people so that they can do more,” the Chairman concluded.

Also speaking, the Chapter Chairman of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) Ibiono Ibom, Hon. Emmanuel Akpan thanked the lawmaker and stressed on the need to elect people of high caliber to the National Assembly.

“First of all, I will take what I am seeing today back to the party. Dr. Archibong has been doing and will continue to appreciate the people. He is a good representative; this is the more reason we should send people of high caliber to the National Assembly. Today has vindicated our decision to re-elect him”.

Further speaking, one of the beneficiaries of the car gift donated by the lawmaker, Hon George Akpan, thanked Dr. Archibong for his show of love, describing him as his boss and leader, saying he shall remain eternally grateful to him.

“I want to thank the almighty God, my boss, leader and member of the federal House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Dr. Henry Archibong for blessing me with a car gift. This car gift to me is the best gift at this time because it came during the season when love is preached everywhere.

“I am particularly grateful to Dr. Archibong for choosing to show me love at this time. I shall remain eternally grateful for this show of love. Today rekindles my hope and belief that it pays to be patient, dedicated, loyal and committed to a course I so believed and still believe in,” he said.

Earlier, Dr. Archibong commissioned a two-bedroom bungalow to an indigene of Enen Atai Itam, Bishop Ekwere Utip, whom he described as a dedicated leader, member of the PDP and deserves a befitting house.

The house was handed over to Bishop Utip and his family.
